An IRISH Tiger?
Hi All
I have had this gilt Tiger for some time..... I think its a Munster Fusilier Officer item? Its a large thing..... so a pouch badge comes to mind? Does anyone have any other ideas? See also :- http://www.dnw.co.uk/auction-archive...s&lot_id=99794

The back appears to be filled with something. Wax? Any sign of fastening lugs or tabs? As it is it is hard to see how it might have been attached to anything, but I'm no tiger expert.

Correct.....its back filled with wax.... no idea why. I might give it some gentle heat and remove it to see whats there.

The stripes look engraved so filling the back would give some support while doing so, it may not have anything on the back if its not finished.

I have not seen such an item before attributed to the Royal Munster Fusiliers. I have little to no data on pouch ornaments for the regiment. Member "Dirtyshirts" has mentioned he has badges ex-Bosleys claimed to be musician pouch badges (if I am correct) but I think that they are grenade devices. I have not seen images of them. As to whether it is an officers item the only pouch that comes to mind to me immediately is the Sabretache for mounted officers but I have no images or data on what the Munsters would have worn. It may have a Leicestershire Rgt (or 17th Foot) link if military or indeed 75th Rgt or, less likely, Gordons. John Last edited by John Mulcahy; 04-02-16 at 04:51 PM. Reason: spelling correction |

Filling it in for support makes sense. Very pretty but rather delicate then, for soemthing meant to be worn by a soldier?
