Default Inniskilling Dragoons 1887 Arm Badge

Hi All
Last year I purchased (at great expense) an 1887 arm badge which belonged to the RSM of the Inniskillings. I have researched him as far as possible but now I would like to find out more about the actual badge itself.

Does any Forum Member have any information regarding the history of this badge. I have read what Messers Liniker and Dine and Seaman have to say in their excellent books but surely there must be more information than that around.

Old photo's, articles from bygone magazines, reference material, etc.

Can anyone help??
Regards
Bob.

Front of Badge.

As far as I'm aware there are only 7 or 8 known examples of this badge. All are engraved in the same fashion and all (except mine) have the army serial number of the owner on the rear. Perhaps the RSM didnt feel he needed his number on it!

Regards

Bob.

Default 1887 Arm Badge

Hi
Thanks for sharing photo's of these teriffic badges.

Between them Linaker+Dine and Seaman were able to identify six named badges. Namely Gardiner,Godwin,Briggs,Wild,Lee,and Harvey.

Forum members have now added three new names to this list. Bramley,Hunter and Lackie. I think that's quite an achievement!!!!

Anybody else have an unknown badge????

Regards
Bob.

Beautiful Badges

While in Enniskillen recently with a house party we were entertained by a piper from the local pipe band. We wore one on his hat that had been presented to him by the Brookborough family but sadly I don't remember the name on it.

Beautiful heavy badge.

Alan

I started this post so long ago that I had forgotten about it.

Thanks for adding your badge details.

I think its important that rare badges like these are recorded.

Can you post a photo of the rear engraving?

Bob
