Thanks - confirming my thoughts - looks to be the same Britannia die as the fake Norfolk 2VB, Gresham's etc............ ? Not sure why the scrabble over it, what do the buyers think they are getting?

Seller has consistently mixed in a number of fakes in his listings since his last episode on here.
Why people buy from him I don’t know, he and his type are ruining this hobby and putting a lot of people off from taking it up |

Personally I have no idea who the seller is. However, what does make me smile is that a perfectly good Norfolk Regiment cap badge has just gone through for £7.

Certainly have their IQ and perhaps their integrity checked too!

As a badge that has received negative responses from forum members who I would say are experienced collectors I would say that the bidders were not members of this forum. Rob |

Rob, just to clarify:
I started the thread because I like variations on both Norfolk and Essex cap badges. The Norfolk badge I flagged up confused me, it has all the hallmarks on the obverse indicating one of the common fakes, but the rear was different from what I have seen before (although similar enough to my Lambourne example to make me curious). I wondered if this was then an original, and perhaps was from a distinctive 'master die' that has since found its way into the hands of a faker - hence all the similar 2VB/Gresham's etc? Clearly not, as the experts here have said it's not a good 'un. My mistake posting it here, I should have put it in the fakes/restrikes section. I can only agree with you regarding forum membership. To a rank amateur like me it pays dividends. Thanks to all for the feedback. |

It does have some similarities to the LAMBOURNE manufactured badge, but when handled side by side the differences are glaringly obvious.
The badge highlighted in #1 is the most obvious fake and I first encountered it about 20 years ago. That being said it is (was?) worn by the Langley School CCF, but you can make your own mind up on that. Norfolk Regiment cap badges are really rather common and I wouldn't expect to pay more than £10 for one (perhaps a little more for a LAMBOURNE). I won't upload a picture of a pile of them, but I have so many and really ought to sort them out and move them on |

Langley CCF are badged to the Royal Anglian Regiment.

Thanks Alan, I wasn't sure.
An old thread showing badges being worn by Langley CCF https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...80&postcount=1 |
