Default Something missing?

OK, somebody is going to have to explain this to me. Hamish appears to have what, sent his OBE out to the shops for cleaning? Or did he perhaps clip it off whilst snapping off a quick salute to the Queen?

Hi

I've seen photos of WW1 servicemen (especially one of a VC winner) with their 14-15 Star, BWM and a medal ribbon for Vic, but no medal.

The reason I think is that, as far as I am aware, the Vic medal came out in the early 1920s, following the earlier issue of the others.

Yes, some men did get theirs "in one go"....

Any other suggestions?

Default Medal comes after ribbon

During the war the men were issued ribbons for things like DFC's and were usually issued the medal by the King the next time he did "honours" so perhaps this was the same. My Uncle was awarded his DFC in the form of a ribband for his battle dress but never actually got the medal until 1956. Imagine a fellow turning out in dress uniform "with medals and swords" and having been appointed OBE but not having actually been awarded the medal. The ribbons of his other medals are long, I suppose the OBE one would be as well. That's all I can come up with. Or, it fell off.

ARMY DRESS REGULATIONS (ALL RANKS)

Part 13
Instructions for the Wearing of the Insignia of Orders, Decorations and Medals

13.014 Awarded Decoration or Medal not Received. A corresponding length of riband to that described in the paragraph above is to be worn in respect of any Decoration or Medal awarded but not received. Clearly this only applies on occasions when Medals are worn.

It’s Straight forward he had been awarded the MBE/OBE in either new years /Birthday honours but had not been to the palace yet to receive it.

Regards

Stephen
