Brass Gurkha Badges ?
Hi,
I've noticed sometimes you see gurkha badges in light coloured brass. Mike put up a picture of the 2nd GR in brass. I've also seen brass versions of the 3rd and I think it was the 4th gurkhas. Are these fakes ? If not why, were they made in brass not w/m ? Can anyone shed any light ? Thanks |

Hi Guys,
The 2nd Gurkhas never had an all brass badge. The badge is blackend brass untill the final issue which is in Black AA. generally, some Gurkha regts worn a WM badge in the kilmarnock cap and a blackend brass version in the Hat Felt Gurkha. You would still need to consider the Regt to confirm this. The 3rd badge of the same pattern was worn in WM and Blackend brass , but the 4th Blackend Brass badge was a different design. Some locally made WM badges used impure metals and when they begin to tarnish it takes on a brassy look. Regards |
