Default Commando car badge

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393439061855

The backing is genuine but what’s the Commando SS off?

Looks like a Martin Marsh fake produced in the 1980s.

Listed in the Martin Marsh catalogue as:
147 SS Commando (Special Service) N [Nickel - White Metal]
148 SS Commando (Special Service) B [Brass - Gilding Metal]

Default COMMANDO ASSOCIATION CAR BADGE

The design is based on the Officer Pattern of No.2 Commando - the SS stands for Special Service. The design (based on reproductions of the badge) then had COMMANDO arched title scroll added as a generic Commando Association badge (not just for veterans of No.2 Cdo). The design is faked, as highlighted in this thread, even though only being a post war Association badge - it catches lots of people out.

Speen Bridge Commando Memorial Museum shows one of these badges as a legit Commando badge.

Phil - Other than as an Association badge they would be incorrect. I helped out at the Association for a while so have a bit of background. The car badge is a legit Association item and the badge in that form was adopted by the Association as mentioned above. There are several spurious badges in the museum, as there are in many museums. Spean Bridge Museum was a great place to visit, unfortunately I believe it is in the process of relocating.
Hoping this helps
Mike

PS - I knew a Brigadier who had one of these badges on his car, he called into a garage to have some work done - to his surprise the work was done for free. The Garage owner, unbeknown to him was a former Commando.
