This site:

http://www.walterbeauchamp.com/index...-brands/london

suggests the company was formed in 1973.

Your link appears to refer to a Canadian Company. Remember, the UK does not have the monopoly on towns/cities called "London".

Hi Guys,

Looking into LB&B - Griffs entry does exist and is either:

a) an error

or

b) for a totally different company as per Dave's suggestion:

From book:

7. London Badge & Button Company Limited
The London Badge & Button Company Limited was started by Mr Keith Riddle on 10th December 1973 with premises in Warstone Lane, Birmingham. (1) (2) The company became part of the Toye Group of companies in January 2000 being part of Poston Products Limited who, in 2010, were producing men’s fashions accessories with the London Badge & Button Company Limited still retaining its own line of Army and Navy products. The London Badge & Button Company Limited also stated in its sales literature that the controlling Toye Group specialised in ‘limited production runs’. This statement is important to collectors of anodised aluminium cap badges and one that should be treated with a certain degree of apprehension.

The London Badge & Button Company Limited was a relative newcomer to the anodised aluminium cap badge manufacturer’s club and one in which its most commonly used slider is probably the easiest to recognise. This allows easy identification of unmarked badges purportedly manufactured by this company (see Chapter 7 - Vertical Shanks).

Footnotes to (1) and (2).

1. Email from Christine Cushing, Toye, Kenning & Spencer Ltd. to the author dated 22nd September 2011. Christine obtained the information form two remaining ex-managers of the London Badge & Button Company Limited who at the time of correspondence, were still working for Toye, Kenning and Spencer. However, companies house stated that the London Badge and Button Co. Ltd. was incorporated on 3rd December 1940. The Companies House entry is deemed to be in error.

2. Email from Christine Cushing, Toye, Kenning & Spencer Ltd, to the author dated 18th December 2008.

Regards

Chris

Hi Marc,

Makes sense:

The company (LB&BC) became part of the Toye Group of companies in January 2000 being part of Poston Products Limited...

G'day Griff,

The only LB&B Co badges that I have are the gun metal Motto from about 1984 and an AA Motto received today from Iain, sorry I also got the "small black" Motto. Its a 30mm high OSD Bz one for the folding side cap. Photos to follow, they only arrived today.

Regards

Phil.

Wish I had chirped up sooner for the OSD ..... I think its the bronze shown in the 1910 Gaunt catalogue..... see below.

It is correct that London Badge & Button Company was formed on 10 December 1973. The company was started by Mr Keith Riddle, who had worked for Gaunts. LB&BC was an entirely new company, not bought off the shelf. I have this information from Keith Riddle himself.

When Keith Riddle retired, the company was bought by some of the LB&BC managers. They sold the company to Poston Products Ltd., a firm that was incorporated on 3 December 1940. The latter company was in financial difficulties, but wished to continue trading. After the purchase, Poston Products and LB&BC exchanged identities, on 28 January 2000.

I have just rechecked the Companies House website. The information about the dates of incorporation and exchange of identities is still given there.

That snippet of info confirms my thoughts on the LBBC Motto..... its a direct copy of the Gaunt 1960/70s Motto more or less.
