Default Lots of military buttons and medals.

I've been hitting local estate sales and such and ended up with all sorts of things that don't really dovetail with my personal interests. I saw a post regarding "On War Service" pins and the different makers so I thought I'd share mine plus some of the other odds and ends that have come into my hands. Enjoy! BTW, any comments or observations are more than welcome.

Nice finds!!

"On War Service" and QSA should do some nice research material. What's behind them would certainly make them more interesting.

Good luck.

The QSA is named to a Tpr. 3rd.Class, R. Walker, South Africa Constabulary. I don't know how this ended up in Canada, perhaps with a relative, as a buddy did a cursory search and found no Canadian record of service under the name and service number.

What is the regimental number for Walker...... I have 2, 3rd Class Troopers named R. Walkers who enlisted in Canada...... There were a large number of Canadians in the SAC after all Sam Steele of Strathcona's Horse fame was 2 i.c. of the unit.....

The medal is inscribed with the number "1825" which I assume to be his service number. I didn't realize that Steele was 2IC. Most interesting and thank you for that tidbit.

OK here is what I have found which I am afraid does match......

1825 3rd Class Trooper ( Later - Medical Corporal) James H. High, ex-Canadian Militia, enlisted Winnipeg 26-04-1901....

The Canadian recruits draft for April 1901 had the numbers between 1796 and 1922.....

The Walkers that I have are numbers in the 2300's which make them part of the November 1901 draft......

P.S. Check this out...... https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...n+constabulary
