Default Canadian Cap Badge 72 Seaforth
Can any of you Canadian collectors tell me if this badge is genuine /complete thanks

Default 72nd Bn Seaforth Highlanders
Hi Alan, The badge pictured is not the usual pattern of 72nd cap badge to the Seaforths. The 72nd Bn cap badge is one piece white metal, with a wreath around the stags head and antlers. The motto Cuidich'n Rich is below the stag's head, and the numerals 7 and 2 are in the antlers. The militia unit, the 72nd Regiment wore this pattern cap badge as did the 72nd Battalion CEF.
The stag head that you have appears to be a better quality one. In WW2 the Seaforths had a badge with a coronet and L in the antlers. This badge was not popular with the troops and they often broke out the coronet and L, wearing the badge with only the stag's head, as in your example. Another Canadian highland unit wore the stag as well, that being the Pictou Highlanders.

that is not a pictou badge looks very early seaforth and I mean pre 14

This is merely a comment with no expertise on my part but it appears to be parts of two badges to me.

It is seperate that is obvious but the construction of all appears to be pre 14

If the stags head is brass (or gilding metal), it looks very much like a sporran badge I have to the Seaforths. Could be?

Bill, that badge you are showing here is that CEF or MILITIA? I HAVE NEVER SEEN A MILITIA BADGE THAT SHORT. MUCH MORE ATTRACTIVE THAN THE TALL ONE.

Hi Ray, As far as I know that is the standard badge. The 72nd Seaforth and the 72nd Battalion Seaforth CEF used the same cap badge design, though there were several makers.
I think there is a bit of an illusion on the size of the badge due to the camera angle.

My money for the one at the top of the thread would be a sporran badge.

Something similar to this just sold on Ebay.

It would be great on this forum to just have one thread for each unit, with all the discussion on that unit in that thread.
