Hello Iain,
In my opinion, the left hand badge is a dud. The bottom of the crown would appear to be missing. I have a few examples in my album here http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...p?albumid=2175 you might be able to see what I mean? Andy Last edited by Nozzer; 14-05-15 at 03:20 PM. |

Iain,
I'd agree with Andy that one is a fake, the other is just a damaged early "Maxims" pattern, they were quite thin and prone to damage, a nice extruded slider though! The WI Regt is a cracker! Andy Last edited by 2747andy; 14-05-15 at 05:01 PM. |

Missing muzzles
I think whilst these badges were made of thin gilding metal the muzzles of the guns were probably deliberately cut off so as to avoid the extra polishing, I have had badges such as the North Staffordshire with the ends of the scroll folded over so as to avoid the extra bit to polish, whatever a man could get away with . . !
