A Long Long War
My brother in law who served with 3RRF during the troubles in N.Ireland loaned me this book A long Long War by Ken Wharton. I would certainly recommend it to all,but particularly ex N.Ireland veterans a very good account of daily life in the province as seen through the eyes of the boots on the ground.

I have not read or seen a copy, I will put that on the to do list in the future, I think anyone who had the misfortune to be there in 1972, in particular, certainly earned their clasp, when I started to do the number crunching, the events of that year shocked even me.

You are quite correct about 1972 being the worst year as the said book quotes 1853 bombings,10564 shootings and the deaths of 129 soldiers 17 RUC officers 223 civilians and 98 terrorists.A very good book indeed.
