Default C.P.S. Crown prosecution Service?

I am trying to identify this button which appears to have the letters C.P.S.

The only thing that I can think of is the Crown Prosecution Service but I have no idea if they wore a uniform.

Colonial Police Service. Post 1952 the "CPS" monogram was replaced by crossed truncheons. The KC was obviously replaced by a QC.

As an aside, the Crown Prosecution Service was only formed in 1986. Its staff don't wear uniform.

Dave.
