Hi All,
Not a manufacturer that I was aware of either. A quick look at Google would seem to indicate that he was a Tailor rather than a button manufacturer. Google shows this entry in the London Gazette: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/.../4150/data.pdf 2302. Thomas Freeston Kirby, of Aldersgate street, in the city of London, Merchant Tailor, for an invention of " improvements in garments for gentlemen and ladies' wear."—Dated 15th August, 1862 There is also this transcript from the Old Bailey, where an employee stole cloth from Mr. Kirby's premises in Aldersgat-street in May 1863. https://www.oldbaileyonline.org/brow...=t18630608-791 He is also shown in the London Commercial Directory of 1852 as : Kirby Thomas Freeston, tailor, 13 1/2 Aldersgate street https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...45Bkfy75Jnarbc Cheers Ian |
