Help required dating a KANGOL Beret please
Hello all,
Could anyone please assist me in confirming the correct manufacture date of this Yorkshire Volunteers Navy Blue beret. Kind Regards, FMT600 |

Kangol adopted this style of stamp in 1950; but the Nato stock number may provide more details.

hi guys this example is post 1968 as the date is missing they kept dates on beret well into 1968 then they start to disappear and go over to what is shown if i get a chance i do some pics later in the week Steve

I'm also not sure if the NSN would throw up any information on the year of manufacture as I remember indenting for the same items of kit/clothing over a period of a few years using exactly the same NSN's, I will add however that I never indented for any Navy Blue Berets (I did wear one prior to the Khaki beret being re-adopted by the Yorkshire Infantry Regiments though). When did the sizeing change form British e.g. 7 to cm's, e.g. 59? The beret will be from post 1968 and pre that date.

Officially the metric size was introduced mid 1970's, 1974 I think it was, but you do see some with both systems in use before they drop the Imperial sizes altogether. Mid 70's seems about right for this Beret.
