I don't think it is Green Howards because of the buttons, but this one seems to be the same colours:

Hi Peter,

Its definitely not GH, their side cap has no yellow piping, and of course as you say the buttons.

Cheers

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure on this one, I have the 3rd Carbs as having a dark blue peak and curtain with a cream body, all piped in yellow but my illustration may well be wrong.

Cheers,

Marcus

Hi Paul,

The Welsh connection had crossed my mind, I don't have an illustration for the RRW, so you could be right, but am myself thinking more likely Yeomanry or Cavalry with the white buttons.

Cheers FMT600

Mike,

You may be right as I don't have a copy of the Dawson book.

I think I might stick this (or the buttons at least) in the button section, as they have to be the key.

Cheers,

Marcus

Thanks gents for the D&D opinion, I had thought possibly D&D but am under the impression that the body/crown of the cap should also be piped in Yellow and it should have Regimental pattern buttons.

Cheers FMT600

FMT600,

This is an Other Ranks cap. If it were an Officer's, it would be piped on the top in gold metallic woven piping as well as the lower curtain. The buttons are of the correct Regimental pattern as the D&D's wore the PoW plumes on their uniforms. Buttons should be silver anodised as on the No.1 cap.

Interestingly the Sherwood and Worcester Foresters wore the same coloured cap with obviously different badge and buttons.

Cheers,
Clay

Therefore,

Depending on the date either the Wessex Brigade badge or the D&D's cap badge should be correct.

Kind Regards,
