Some brief comments on some of the badges shown.

I have never seen a printed Women's Land Army armlet.

The Southern Command sign with black stars on yellow is not previously recorded.

The white star in a blue circle has been an unsolved mystery for over 50 years.

The three colour flash below it was worn by Free Belgian troops in Britain.

The red and black tank sign on the same sheet as the star is that of 3rd Armoured Group and has never been seen printed before.

The four different coloured drums are also unidentified.

The Stretcher Bearer title was worn on khaki overalls by those working in wartime emergency hospitals and has nothing to do with the Home Guard.

Thanks Jon, I guess I would categorize my BW in wreath as a Home Front badge rather than Army in that case.

regards

It would be nice if this lot stayed together for now and always, let's hope that when I leaves you at some time in the future it doesn't get scattered to the four winds and lost as a single item of importance for the cloth collecting friends here, I'm sure that there's a few envious eyes looking

Hi Magpie,

Don't worry, I have no intention to "explode" this interesting factory group.

On photo 11 it shows 3 x 1(BR) corps i.e. RE, RA & R Sigs, Are these not post war?? or were they in use before the wars end??
OR am I mistaken completely.

There is plenty of evidence that the RA version was worn in wartime, the earliest record I have found dating to May 1942. I have not found records of the RE and Signals versions until early 1946 but given that the sample board is dated October 1942 they must have been made for someone.

There are also versions backed with the colours of the RASC, the RAMC and the Pioneer Corps.

As you rightly say all three versions were revived for BAOR's I Corps in the 1950s.

If these are all original badges there are at least two there that I now need to move from my repro pages.

Herve,
This is clearly a terrific resource and deserves further research. Would you be able to to put photos of each page in an album so that members could comment and add information on separate badges?

Gents, can I please ask for clarification of the two large crowns (bottom right of one page and top right on the facing page). Bottom right contains red within it and whilst top right doesn't, and top right appears slightly (maybe just my eyes?) bigger. Is one WOII and the other WOIII? Many thanks, Ken

Hi Jon, I don't think the end user would have accepted the 3rd Armoured Group badge as the whole point was that the lightning made a figure 3. The printed version looks as if someone copied the original not knowing what it was, hence the rather sparse and inaccurate representation. Not sure as to why the badge was made, best wishes Mike
