Unknown flash
Hi, obtained this flash recently. Any ideas as to what it is? I think/hope it was connected with an armoured unit in NW Europe 1944, thanks in advance Mike

Australian Pay Corps cWWII? Possibly used after WWII?
Link added: 1438. Aust. Army Pay Corps (Militia), 1937-1943: Auth. AAO 197/1937, 31.8.1937. A larger version of the above mentioned badge: 1439. Aust. Army Pay Corps, 1943-1945: Auth. GRO 92/1943, 22.1.1943. For wear by all units and personnel of the Corps, including: Chief Paymasters Office; Corps Field Cash Offices; Force Command Pay Office; Divisional Field Cash Offices; Army Command Pay Offices; Armoured Brigade Field Cash Offices; Army Depot Cash Offices; District Accounts Offices; Corps Accounts Office; Depot Cash Offices. http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-...td.htm#plate58 (I see this badge as yellow on blue, is it yellow on black?) Hi Leigh, thank you for that, it is very dark blue and does look Australian. It came with some bits to an armoured officer in France 1944 so I have no idea how they would get connected, thanks again, Mike

Mike, I think you actually have a patch for the Fort Garry Horse. It was worn on the summer helmets (eg sun helmets) but on the point of the square.

Hi Bill, thank you. Is there any chance they could have worn it in N.W. Europe? Thank you again and hope you are keeping well, best wishes Mike

Possible. Fort Garry's were 2 Canadian Armoured Brigade. An officer may have had that patch in his stuff.

If it is Australian it is from the pre-1943 period. Later patches were smaller and a lighter blue.
Anybody wearing them in Europe, UK, would have had the later style of patch with a grey background and the only reason I can think of AAPC being there would be with 1 Aust PW Reception Gp for recovered Australian PoW. Keith |

I have one of these almost exactly the same as the initial posting. I also came to the conclusion that it was Fort Garry Horse, possibly WW1.

A patch of that type was worn on the Wolseley or tropical helmets by the Fort Garry's as a pugaree flash after the First World War.
