Info on RA cap badges please
Hi All
Can anyone shed some light on these badges, are they for the volunteer battalions? The first is a full size KC version with moving wheel, which looks like it has been silver plated, but it is slidered, not lugged. The second, QC example is also slidered but also appears to be silver plated or silver. It is the smaller beret or side-cap badge. Did VB's wear white metal / silvered badges post 1952? In short - No.
The KC version appears to be a standard OR cap badge thats nickel plated. Various reasons - Band; Police; Sweetheart. etc. Not sure if all wore a WM version but possible. The RGA (Volunteers) ceased to exist in 1908 and always had VOLUNTEERS / VOLUNTEER on the top banner, a KC and never slidered. regards

Hello All,
I am certain that this question is asked, answered, asked, etc..... When looking at a badge; in this case "The Royal Regiment of Artillery" (RA) how does one date it? Canada first issue or better yet acquired RA badges for it's CEF personnel prior to getting the Canada scroll maded and issued. The badge in question was sold as CEF era, however not a great deal of money paid for it. The lugs to me would be one way of dating the badge. I have attached the badge in question, maybe someone will be able to help me date it. side note; it sure would be great if there was a quick reference for commonly asked question with answers. Chris

Hi Chris,
The badge you display with the UBIQUE scroll is that authorised in 1927 for the RCA and CA, amending the 1907 Dress Regulations for officers (GO 42/27). Similarly notified for ORs in 1929 (GO 105/29). It was the general pattern in use until 1961, comes in a couple of different designs and finishes, and there are multiple manufacturers die variations. The badge with CANADA scroll came first, not certain when it was introduced but certainly appears in the 1907 Dress Regulations. Keith
