Unidentified medals - pre WW1?
Hello all. Although the actual medals on the attached photograph are unclear, I wondered if anybody might be able to ID them based on the bars and the ribbon patterns. I scanned at 600dpi, so hopefully the zoom should be okay.
I was keen to date the photograph - nothing is known of the soldier. What era do people think the uniform would be from? Many thanks. |

The medals look to be the Queen's South Africa and the King's South Africa Medals (for the Anglo-Boer War).
I think that the buttons are black as per Rifle Regiments. |

Hi,
I would think the soldier is wearing the Queen's South Africa Medal and the King's South Africa Medal, both with bars. Hence he would have served in the South African Boer War 1899-1902. Cheers, Tinto |

I agree, Queen's South Africa Medal and King's South Africa Medal so photo dates to post-1902.

The uniform is not the standard WW1 one so its either Boer War era made for SAfrica or possible WW1 VTC or the like.

Boer War Rifle Regiments
There were obviously a number of different rifle regiments that served during the Boer war, mostly recruited from local area's, anything on the back of the photo?
