Default New Zealand with blank over ONWARD?

Hello I have a New Zealand badge that has a blank scroll over the ONWARD motto. You can see the ONWARD on the back. I have not been able to find any discussions on this variation.

Looks like someone sanded down the NZ and the ONWARD scroll. This was sometimes done in order to create a very bright polish on the badge and maybe for a bit of individualism from the other guys.

I would agree with the previous post. Looks like a individual had it 'buffed' down easier to polish.

It is not polished off. There is an actual piece soldered over the Onward part, but is professionally done so that without a jeweler's magnifier you cannot tell that it has a thin layer.
