The first official mention, by the AIF, of a bombers badge was a khaki grenade with red flames (AIF Order 787 - 7 Aug 17), but I suspect it may have been in use for some time prior to this. It was replaced with an all scarlet badge (AIF Order 897 - 5 Oct 17), however old stocks were to be used up before the new badge was issued. So your all scarlet is quite correct, I'm doubtful if Aussie bombers ever officially wore an all khaki badge, however I'm sure Engineer Sergeants wore them above their chevrons. For me, the Artillery badge is too small to be able to make a call on. The cockade looks like a patriotic item, definitely not the typical Anzac Leave Rosette. You have some very nice badges in that lot. Dan |

It was worn in Australia by AIF reinforcements who had qualified, both in brass and oxidised copper. Have seen it on a backing in photos, possibly red. Keith |
