Default Malta 60th Wife’s Birthday

I hope no-one will get annoyed by this post!

But, would ask any resident of Malta to recommend a nice Venue to take the Wife to a nice Restaurant in Valletta on 3rd January a local place not generally for tourists but for locals perhaps? ( don’t think she will go for the local delicacy mind!).

Can anyone tell me a nice place and a contact Email address, and if it is open on this date? Many thanks Billy

Billy I'm annoyed.

Annoyed that you haven't invited me.

Hope you find a suitable venue.

Regards.

I can guess that at least one person might be annoyed now that you have told everyone how old she is? You might yet be able to undo the damage if you remove her age from your post. Good luck.

Billy

Personally I found the food to be great in Valletta you can’t go wrong the local IPA is also a nice drink.

Great museums so be carful not to wind her up as so much military history all around

Enjoy

Stephen

Default Eating Place

Billy, I have not been to Malta for nearly 30 years but there is a square near where the cinema which showed the Malta experience ( Malta's history) which used to have a restaurant opposite I think in a basement, the food I can't say, but the owner had the walls covered in frames of badges.

I'm sure your wife will be interested

Rob

First off, I think this is a wonderful, loving gesture and hope it works out!!!

Tim, you are very perceptive. I can only speak for myself... but one is enough!!!

Can only suggest you visit Mdina and Rabat while you're there. Not for nothing is Mdina known as 'The Silent City' with some far reaching views all round.

Hi All and sorry Wilf should you accompany us I fear she might Dump Me!

One Wife is definitely enough! how do Mormons survive beats me!

As to Tracy finding out what I’ve done is minimal as she doesn’t visit! thank goodness, but would really like to surprise Her!

Pete thanks for the message read that before checking on here, sounds good, I will contact them and check dates for the period we are going!

Many thanks everyone and Rob been to that Restaurant on an earlier visit which you gave me a long while ago there was no badges to be seen and staff hadn’t any idea of them?

All the best Billy

Default My Malta visit

Billy, when I was going to Malta I had a conversation with the late Hugh King who told me there were three big badge collections on the island and he had bought two of them.

The man who ran the restaurant told me he had collected badges as a boy from servicemen who arrived by ships, he was probably in his sixties then and when I spoke to him about his marvellous collection on the walls of his restaurant he said that these were only a fraction of what he had at home.

I think this was probably the third collection Hugh King mentioned. I am not surprised that there are no badges on the walls now, the owner would probably be in his nineties now if still alive.

Have a good time . . !

Rob

Loads of lovely places to eat in Valletta. The list is long so if you could specify what kind of foodies you guys are I'll certainly can recommend a few places.

Lunch (as not open in the evening) i would certainly recommend Da Pippo's (Melita Street) and dinner La Sfoglia (Merchant Street), Palazzo Preca (Strait Street) all Mediterranean cuisine. Early booking is a must! You could look them up on google maps or trip advisor.

If you require further info, do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards
Vincent.
