Bent & Parker
Hi All
When did Bent & Parker stop trading and is there a record of sale of assets (dies). Did J R Gaunt and Sons buy up any of the dies for example?

Bent & Parker were taken over by Gaunt in 1916 but later badges are known.

Bent & Parker were listed in Kelly's Birmingham directories up to the 1949, but I did not find them in the 1950 edition; how relevant this is to their use of B & P backmarks I do not know.
It seems odd that Gaunts continued using the name, but not the better known Jennens. Rex |

Well.... here is something interesting..... can anyone explain this?
Genuine Gaunt Motto?.... no hallmark.... probably plated?

There is a "B&P" stamp in the Motto..... sorry ... thought it was obvious? I can show a lager image of the stamp if you like?

1925 !
Gaunt bought up B&P and a number of other companies in that year - but I don't have my notes with me now. |

Thanks Julian.... the Motto above has a B&P stamp on it. This is the only one I have seen and I would like to know if B&P made the Motto.

It does look genuine.... the Motto is plated I think as there is no hallmark and the right loop appears to have lost its plate. There is a "follow on" to this line of inquiry .....but I would like to see a HMd B&P Motto to take it further or at the very least know that B&P made silver Mottoes for the 17th Lancers (as well as the chad). I have seen the marks for the "late Jennens" by Gaunt..... this is why the above is intriguing.

B&P Logo
Hi
Attached photo is the reverse of an 1887 Inniskilling Dragoons Arm Badge showing the B&P Logo. It is Hallmarked 1888 and as you can see was manufactured by Bent and Parker. Hope this is helpful. Regards Bob. |
