Default Plastic collar dogs

Hi Forum. I have several plastic badges and have always wondered if there was ever such a thing as a plastic collar dog and if not, why not? Regards Ian

The RM had dark blue plastic collar badges, the RA had dark brown collar badges (which were also worn as FSC badges) as WWII economies.

Collar badges were not supposed to be worn during the war, hence no plastic collar badges.

Well, you can have a pair of RM collar dogs on display - literally thousands of them around, usually some on eBay, prices hoped for at about £80 a pair although most are half that or less. There was a pair buy it now for £3.50 a week or so ago.
The RS collar badge was presumably intended as an FSC / GSC badge rather than for wear as a collar.

High priced RM collars are chancers. Go to a fair and pick up a pair for a couple of quid.

I did have a pair of Plastic 7th (New Forest Cadets) Royal Hampshire Regiment Collar Badges some time back, but I sold them with the rest of my plastic badge collection.

You can see some that sold a while back in this link (first four in the top row and the two on the left)

They are quite a soft plastic.

I wish REME had produced a pair of plastic collar dogs.

Unless I transposed the number incorrectly from an article on plastic badges, my notes show only 50,000 RM collars were produced. (It could have been pairs I guess). I picked mine up for a fiver some time ago, which seemed to me mega cheap compared to cap badge production of 150,000 of which I'd be lucky to get one for less than £60. That seemed a large price differential between cap and collars at the time.

The RM collar badges flooded on to the market years ago (80's, 90's?) presumably it was a case of thousands of them being found at the back of stores somewhere.
I've never seen any in other than what appears to be an unworn condition.

That makes perfect sense. The collars I have are in an unworn condition, whereas the RM plastic cap I own has definitely been worn and seen service.
