Thanks Simon, but I think it's related to the British SBS of WW2, but never seen a badge to it? This obviously unofficial badge I was hoping someone could identify as being from that Unit.

Information on the book "Filibusters":
First published in 1947, this novel from British author John Lodwick is an accolade to the British Special Boat Service (SBS), a commando force of some 300 men that inflicted great damage on the enemy in the Mediterranean and the Aegean seas during World War II.

Founded in July 1940 by Commando officer Roger Courtney, and initially named the Folboat Troop—after the type of folding canoe employed in raiding operations—the Special Boat Service became the special forces unit of the Naval Service of the United Kingdom. Together with the Special Air Service, Special Reconnaissance Regiment and the Special Forces Support Group, they form the United Kingdom Special Forces and come under joint control of the same Director Special Forces.

In The Filibusters: The Story of the Special Boat Service, Lodwick reflects his war experiences and exploits as an officer in the Special Boat Service.

With respect to the author, John Lodwick, I would suggest that his book "The Filibusters" is not a novel. It's a well written early history of the SBS by a former member of that unit. It's worth reading. Mike

Agreed - a very unlikely badge re SBS (Jellicoe's Special Boat Squadron) - who were badged similar to early SAS re khaki beret and Who Dares Wins badge etc. (Please see Attachments - Including Anders Lassen VC - SBS (rather than SAS)

Lodwick's book is underrated and a good read - Republished as 'Raiders from the Sea' - I have found it a worthy addition to the bookshelf for background etc.

Vigilans - yes as you say lineage of today's SBS is long, and complex back to Roger Courtney, although some 'Bootnecks' place emphasis on his great rival Blondie Hasler who stole the thunder of the Courtney brothers through Op Frankton etc and his subsequent position at SOG etc. I am pleased you acknowledged 'Jumbo' Courtney (yes I agree this is a very simplified view, but it is one I tend to stick to).
