Cheshire Regiment flash?
A recent purchase: apparently a Cheshire Regiment formation sign, but according to my sources the Cheshire Regt sign is a diamond divided vertically, no horizontally. In addition, this flash has an embroidered acorn and oak leaves. Could it be some sort of Battalion distinction? Home Guard formation sign? Any hints, gentlemen?

Is it not a Cadet Force?

As a matter of interest has anyone any proof that the badge was actually worn, I have a couple of the same badge which I have had for many years. I was a Cheshire cadet in the early 60's and never wore it and I have never seen it worn. The example in the photo is either 4th or 7th Battalions T.A. the 1st would have worn cerise to the front. The other photo is of Cheshire cadets circa late 1920's, just thought I would share it as it shows a two piece S/T.
If anyone has a photo of it being worn I would be very pleased to see it. Last edited by Mercian; 14-03-16 at 10:01 AM. |

I have seen it described as a WW I sign. I have looked at my references and I can not find it.

John Waring (JW2/F19) was clear that it was the Cheshire ACF sign - described as White acorn, green oak leaves. On maroon (top) and buff diamond. In his Pamphlet 2 he also lists flashes incorporating an oakleaf for three battalions of the Cheshire Regt in World War One:
1 Cheshire: Green oakleaf on white rectangle 2 Cheshire: Dark green silhouette of an oakleaf (worn on the back) 11 Cheshire: Green oak sprig on khaki. Mike |

While we are on the subject Cheshire Regiment flashes I thought I would post this one from the 1/6th Battalion The Cheshire Regiment worn in WWI. I don't know a lot about cloth badge and have no books on the subject, so I have found this thread quite interesting. If anyone has any photos of the badges mentioned I would be pleased to see them. Thanks to loupie 1961 for starting the thread.
