Default Wilts ACF Moonraker

The attached picture is a printed 'Moonraker' badge which fits the description, in Waring, of a Wilts ACF badge.

Please can anyone
a) Confirm this is the ACF badge and not Scouts?
b) Supply any more info upon the period of use?

Thanks, Stephen.

PS. It came from eBay and cost 99p so I won't be bankrupted if its Scouts.

Wilts ACF. Time line not sure, certainly not worn 1978 onwards.

Attached is my example of this badge.

I am an instructor in the Wiltshire ACF so I am always looking for any Wilts items including more examples of this badge. HQ did confirm that they believed that this was the first pattern of their badge.

I would say worn from their formation in 1942 untill probably the demise of Battledress.

Looks like the type worn from WW2 onwards, not sure when it stopped, I was told that the scout badge is exactly the same, probably from the same maker

Default Wilts ACF Moonraker

Thanks for everyone's responses.

I note that mine is the same as most peoples, except REME245: his doesn't appear to have the plain black inner border line. Is it that his badge has been folded to obsure them, or the phot is cropped too tightly?

Stephen.

I have not looked at mine for some time but most printed badges have the lines from new then as you say they are either folded over or trimmed off.

I would assume the ACF at this time would also have been wearing back on green titles?

I have now picked up a second pattern of this badge which I believe is the final post-war version.

Does anyone have any other versions?

Can anyone confirm the authenticity of this Wiltshire ACF Badge which is different to the current pattern which is yellow backed and not black.

I believe this latter pattern is sold commercially in Tourist Information Centres etc.

The current basge can be viewed here.

Hi , I have only seen these 2 variations of which I have a number I have never been able to date these from photos -the horizontal stone outlined in black and not the other I think may be just manufacture variations

Unless the yours and mine are washed out the blue version can clearly be seen in some 1960's pictures I have.

Hence my comments on early and late patterns.

I posted the first item and have had a discussion with REME245 regarding its use and part of its time line. The standard green brassards were provided to and made up by a Regimental Tailor at a nearby unit c1978 if my memory serves. They are genuine items and should be viewed as such. The second badge looks like something from the local information centre
Martin.

Default WILTS acf

Hi Regarding the badge with the black outline I mentioned to you before that I have 2 variations of the badge They are also in the collection of a fellow collector - B.R [i have photos] who i suspect is 1 of the leading authority on Wilts/West counties A.C.F
The 2nd badge is also as Rawlings 2103 page 98 -[1989] are these so called information centre badges pre this date

Unable to find my spares at present ,but the 2 variations on a board,I think it would be splitting hairs regarding the blue colour You would also require a colour picture pre your 1960 one for comparison I assume it was coloured before I would attempt to date any of these patches These were also worn on B.D wilts[slip on type]/ A.C.F/patch I have seen these followed by no 2 I do not have a numbered one's in my collection
