Default "Voided" Parachute Regiment badge sold on eBay opinions?

Good morning,

This Parachute Regiment badge was sold on eBay last weekend.
Haven't seen the pattern with that voided lion before.
Would be nice to read your opinions on this one please.

Keep safe,
Marinus

yes marinus I have one of these badges with the voided crown only the other one has a voided crown and lion.they are not firmin badges as the shroud lines on those go all way to the bottom and are symetrical.ludlow officers badges.some voided crown and lion some voided crown only and they always converge on the left hand side of the square at the bottom only Ludlow badges do this.gaunt, firmin made officers and other rank badges so it would make sense that Ludlow made other rank badges as well.where the shroud lines meet at the bottom is the point here.they could be made by another maker unknown.some people think these could be fakes i.m not sure of that as they have inner wings rounded ect.i have many para, army air corp, glider pilot regiment badges and buttons.i have collected for many years and study these things carefully.opinions are divided on this as with a couple of sealed crown types which are different to the gaunt pattern

Hi Marinus, in my opinion this is the same pattern as the Firmin officers pattern badge. I am not sure if it is a genuine other ranks badge or just copied from the officers pattern. I have not yet seen one appear in a collection with a wartime or pre 1953 beret with provenance, so the jury is out for me regarding this badge.

Also as far as I know Ludlow did not produce other ranks Parachute Regiment Cap badges.

Cheers,
Jack.

Default voided Para badges

I have four voided parachute regiment badges, officers badges by Gaunt and Firmin and as already been confirmed the badge listed is identical to the Firmin die albeit die-struck as opposed to the die-cast officers version.

My other two badges are currently in my unidentified box, one is a silver plated example with no markings a flatter crown well made die-struck, the other is a slidered badge but it was lugged and what looks like a factory conversion, this badge is die struck.

any help with these would be appreciate

bomber, Jack8 and fwhittle,

Thank you for your contributions.

I agree that the die-struck badge is the same pattern as the die-cast officers badge by Firmin.

A bit strange that my old eyes didn't recognise that.
I've attached an image with the die-struck and my officer badge for comparison.

The question remains whether Firmin actually made those die-struck badges.

Regards,
Marinus
