Royal Irish Regiment Officer's Cross Belt Plate
Hello All
Does anyone have pictures of the front and rear of a (post 1992) Royal Irish Regiment Officer's Cross Belt Plate that they can show on here please. Was the plate made of cast silver or was it also produced in die stamped white metal? Was the cross belt badge only worn by officer's or was it also worn by SNCOs? Many thanks in advance Paddy |

Officers and RSM only,WO2s wear the black plastic waist belt. The waist belt badge is the same design as the crossbelt plate.
Not sure what it was made from ,id imagine that silver plate would be standard . But possibly HM silver and Nickel plate/ Chrome as well. |

I recently acquired this in a job lot of R IRISH badges. It is in die stamped white metal and may have lost some better plating? Three screw posts and shown also is the same design but much smaller soldiers nickel plated belt plate badge.

Also this small eagle which I think is for the pouch on the cross belt? Two screw posts with square nuts. All parts hall marked.

After their formation. The PRI shop had the cross belt sets for sale in hallmarked silver, or nickel silver.

Royal Irish pouch badge.
Tim. Your eagle is a Royal Irish Rangers officer's pouch badge. I've attached a picture of the version adopted by the Royal Irish Regiment.

Royal Irish
[QUOTE=grey_green_acorn;605445]These photos show the 'wide wing' eagle as Royal Irish
Rangers officers would simply change to the new RIR cross belt plate. Whistle and chain remained the same. The new eagle would slowly replace the wide wing version. |

Many thanks for all the information. I missed one on ebay last week which is what initiated this thread for me. Durng the week I contacted the RIR PRI shop to ask if they sold these items, they subsequently put 5 up for sale at a price of £110. They also sent me a couple of pictures and stated that the badges were nickel silver. They appear very bright but are very similar to the ones posted by Tim although they now have brass nuts for the 3 screwposts as opposed to the silvered fancy ones on Tim's. Does anyone know if the ones from the PRI shop are the ones currently purchased and worn by officers of the regiment (I appreciate they can also be purchased from military tailors). Many thanks Paddy |
