Cameron Highlanders, again
time to get the comfort blanket out of the bedding chest. the recent post has put the willies up me. this example was acquired yonks back and I have never paid much attention to it, being deposited in the ' as well ' box. it is silver plated, has good definition and has long lugs. has the jury come to a unanimous verdict ?

It has signs of a fake.
The piece of metal not removed at the end of the wreath and footed lugs, hidden under the silvering. The silvering may just be a con to hide the errors. regards

I am pretty sure that the one I posted here is an unmarked silver officer badge. https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...hlight=Cameron Despite comments that it may be an O/Rs, I have since seen similar ones on dealer sites as officer's badges. I have no way of testing to see if it is silver but rubbing on paper leaves black marks which is a good sign. Anyway, the point of the post is that I would expect a genuine officer badge to have similar voiding and detail. Cheers, Alex

I am not so sure it is a fake. The detail and quality is excellent except for the unvoided error on the wreath, which I have seen on other old and genuine Cameron badges, but I think the silver plating was done later. Silver plating hides nothing as it is micro thin and those lugs are not the typical spade foot fakes. The lugs also show wear and dings under the plating.
So my take on it is that it may be a genuine OR badge plated at some time. CB PS, just went back to get my similar example, unplated with orginal small lugs. Same problem with the wreath unvoided.

I don't believe its a fake either. I cant see footed lugs, and the reverse detail to me looks ok. The bit at the end of the wreath could just be a manufacturers fault. IMHO

big sigh !
Badges of the Highland & Lowland Regiments-Bloomer arrived this morning. hoping to discover detailed info. unfortunately the illustrations of the Cameron Highlanders are washed out. all that can be discerned is something white on a dark background. the only two that are close, sans voids, are described as silver and pewter. the main thing that rankles with me with this example is the rendition of the left hand.
