hi Stephen
I know the thread, thanks.
just looking for opinions.
my opinion is its good, Japanese made fully embroidered patch with the staining on the back from the makers label.
the patch that john showed you I believe is an in country (Vietnam) made genuine. note the green cloth used and not fully embroidered.
I think I have one of each. will have to dig them out and look.
btw, the 2 patches I have in my collection came directly from an AATTV vet also.
cheers

It's easy to tell. It's a dinkum one made by Kasamaki and Co.Ltd., Tokyo.

There's some good photos under the heraldry section of the AWM.

The larger one on the RHS is definitely dinkum.
The smaller one is interesting. I've never seen one with those differences before and I have quite a few photos of genuine ones. I think I owned about four or five of them at one stage including one enclosed in its bag of issue and makers label in Japan.

thanks for the reply peter
yeah the smaller one is unusual, but they both came from a the same vet?
i did get them at different times, probably about a year or two apart.
unfortunately he died last year.
i have another patch some where and will try and find it over the next week or 2
