Default Tartan "patching"

A little while ago I put up an image of the Black Watch RHC wearing the regimental tartan as a shoulder patch. Currently, an auction is running on ebay with an Essex and Kent Scottish tunic to a Lieutenant with the McGregor tartan as a shoulder patch under the regimental title. Essex Scottish tunic.
Two questions. 1. Was the practice of wearing regimental tartan as a shoulder patch part of the dress for Scottish regiments of the Canadian army? If so, time period?
2. What Scottish regiments of the Canadian army followed this practice?

The Ottawa Camerons tried that in early 1940,of wearing a piece diamond shaped tartan on their BD sleeves, following the trend of the British Camerons. It seems the "Hired- helps" did not appreciate this distinction and the Ottawa Camerons were ordered to remove the offensing tartan.
Informations from Military Artifacts pamphlet, published by the well-known and renowned author/publisher Clive Law.

Hi Bill,

I've got some books about the liberation of Groningen, Holland. In there are numerous pictures from, Essex Scottish and Black Watch and others. They are all wearing the normal title and Divisional patch.

Kind regards,
Martijn
