G'day Lionheart,

I think there is already a thread here somewhere about a similarly marked badge. Someone might remember and be able to direct you to it.

I wonder why would they have a W^D mark on an Australian badge?

I am aware that the British Badges were made by Tiptaft at the same time and maybe a Brit Slider with WD was put on an Aussie Badge....everything else about the "type" appears as an original slider and the badge is not one that has previously had lugs that's for sure....John the post you speak of is a good start but is different to what I am seeking as it is about fake sliders as we can see from the "type" which is clearly different from an original.

Thank you for your input, I am appreciative but still looking for more.

Regards

Thanks for your input bc, I purchased this on eBay and have put in a Paypal Claim which the Seller has acted in an "I am most offended that you would suspect me of selling a fake" manner, however he has agreed to refund the item and postage when he receives it back in the UK....

Smile Tiptaft Rising Sun badge

G'day Lionheart

I have had a look at your badge and compared it with one of mine which comes from a family member who served in WW1.

Sad to say I believe that the stamp on the slider is wrong, it is much too big, mine is in very small letters and a total of 14 mm long and there is no W^D mark. Jeff cossum in his book on rising suns only shows a badge similar to mine and they also have the name stamped into the rear of the badge on the flat section to the left of the slider.

The origonal badges have little dags on the edges of the suns rays and around the voids. The shape of the void above the word Commonwealth is wrong, mine is oblong where as the one above Australian is irregular. Also the crown on mine is not voided.

If you have a look back down in this subject there are several threads with lots of photos re Tiptaft badges.

I hope that this helps.

regards

Phil.
