This is from the Duke Of Lancasters Museum:

It records the ORs wore a brass IY badge on their slouch hats and there was no badge on the badge less pill box hats up to 1907. In 1907 a new crimson hat with a w/m badge came along. It records that there was a shortage of these so SD brass badge were worn and some were plated.

records that the IY did not wear a badge on khaki caps until 1909 when they used the brass LY rose badge.

As this was written with contributions from at least one serving IY yeoman it is a good source.

Very interesting read. The period from 1900 to WW1 was a very busy and complex time for uniforms and badging in the army. I can't imagine how all this decided upon, not to mention the cost.
