Officers Rank Pip?
I’ve tried to find this online, but to no avail. I think it’s an Officers Rank pip, has the ‘Honi soit’ ect motto…….would someone be kind enough to identify and date it please?
Thank you 649E9407-FB39-4FF7-86B9-BEFB8E1D2757.jpg |

Not a rank star, but an ORs collar badge to the Royal Sussex Regt. Not possible to date as they were the same since before ww1 through ww2.

Hi Jill,
This is an Other Rank's collar badge of the Royal Sussex Regiment in gilding metal. I would say yours is likely a post 1897 example (pattern 10102a, sealed 14th December 1897, reference Churchill 968), as the earlier 1882 pattern tended to have straighter ends to the Maltese Cross (although due to several variations, it's hard to be definitive). The pattern was resealed in 1938. Later versions still tended to be on one flat lug rather than two 'D' or round shaped lugs, but I cannot tell how many yours has from the front. They were worn until at least 1954, when a gold anodised aluminium version was introduced until c.1960 when the Royal Sussex Regiment was subsumed by the Home Counties Brigade. I hope this helps.
