One being worn by a WAAF in a recruiting set up in an Oxford Street store. The armband has an added eagle and crown.
Is yours for sale by any chance? |

I think it is an eagle and crown as shown on the photo in my post. I have seen about four or five of these and all but one had an eagle and crown, the same as worn by officers on side cap and beret, attached.
The tricolour armband was introduced around 1936 for serving men and later women employed as recruiting staff. It fell out of use around the late 1940s. There were also a 'Pensioner Recruiter' badge, worn on the lower forearms by retired Air Force personnel employed in recruiting offices, introduced at about the same time, and still in use in 1961. |

Calling this item an 'armband' is incorrect. The card says 'armlet' and that is what we should refer to it as. I know this term is in common use but should we enable the loss of history by continuing to use incorrect terms?
