Default RCE flames

As a general rule of thumb, RCE grenades are distinguished from RCA grenades by the number of flames, 9 versus 7 respectively.
A note on a 1945 document dealing with RCE collars notes that there were three different grenades. 1900-8 flames, 1904-10 flames, and 1911- 9 flames. It further notes that grenades with 9 and 10 flames were worn during the current war, and attributes this to different manufacturers. It is also noted that the embroidered grenades provided for sergeants and above for both RCE and RCA were 10 flames.

There were a few Officers in the Royal Regiment of Artillery that wore collar grenades with 10 flames during WW1.
