WW2 Royal Marine Gunners
Hi all. Hopefully someone can answer this for me? In WW2 the majority of RN warships had at least one gun turret manned by Royal Marines, in period photo's I've seen, they wore their blue uniform or later on blue battle dress, my question is, did the marines wear a gunnery branch badge as worn by gunners in the Royal Navy, and on the battle dress, were woven Royal Marine shoulder titles/tapes worn or brass RM shoulder titles?

Hello Tony,
you will find a lot of informations and answers to most of your questions on the site of the Royal Marines Historic Society: https://rmhistorical.com/paper A lot of Sources, articles and also photos of uniforms and badges in wear. The RM Gunners on board wore always gunnery rating badges very similar to those of the navy, have a look on this article: https://rmhistorical.com/files/conte...ges%20V5-2.pdf Hope that helps, kind regards Markus |
