Default Unknown formation sign

Gents,
a small felt badge that has the colours of the Cheshire Regt or Middlesex Regt, in a diamond configuration. There is a light fabric backing and has clear stitch marks where it has been removed from something.

My initial thoughts were Cheshire Regt, from the side of a floppy desert hat or helmet cover - but not something I've seen before.

Any info or suggestions welcome.

Regards all

Bess

I would suggest Cheshire Regiment - possibly from their UN deployment to Bosnia 1992-93 when the battalion was wearing UN blue berets and helmet covers. This was the time when use of TRFs etc was spreading and before the merrowed edge types were produced.

Its a few years now but I don't remember any of bonking Bob's lads wearing anything like that when I was kicking around Vitez. I've got a vauge recollection that some of the 9/12 squadron did wear something similar in their colours - but that may be miss-remembering from a different tour.

Certainly can't see anything like it on any of the few pics I took there.

If it was Cheshires on Grapple 1 then it would have been from something unusual - like an RP's brassard or similar...

Definitely Cheshire Regt but worn over quite a long time.

Thanks all. It does appear more recent than directly post war. Bosnia onwards sounds like a good shout.

Thanks again chaps. It was found in a box of contemporary British military cloth badges at Malvern last. £1 well spent . . .

Regards to all

Ah, Mike that's it. Interesting that it's older than I suspected.

Nice that it's wartime.

Thanks again all

Found a photo from 1944 showing a young soldier in uniform:

Quote:
From 5 Cheshires, he went to 7 Bn Cheshire Regiment which was serving in the Mediterranean as the Divisional (MG) Battalion of the 5th Infantry Division.
