The one that I have that is original is detailed and in 2D while the patch sold on ebay for that astronomical amount is flat and has no detail.

Looks like a very risky field of collecting when it would be possible for the machines that made these badges to just be started up again to make more-I would think that possible whether genuine as used or not.
I thought trying to collect 100 year old metal badges was tough. Regards, Paul. |

One thing is for sure. Now that the full details of the patches are common knowledge, the squadrons involved will be changing them post haste.
Then the debate can start all over again, and the forgers can rip off the collectors once more. |

Just checked the A Sqn one with mine and the numerals are identical to others in this set of subdued union jack patches.
Mine came directly from the maker ! Del. |

I would suggest that the upper case letter T is just a poor manufacturing attempt at the Arabic numeral 2 - which can actually look more like a lower case letter 'r'.

I was recently offered a similar cap and badge or sale by a good source in Hereford.
I have literally given up on chasing the new patches as there's literally 100s if not 1000s out there. "Official and unofficial". If it comes from source then I'll invest, otherwise i steer clear. Theres enough experts with amazing collections of original patches in this thread to guise those less knowledgeable. Even 3 days back a mate sent me one from the older days i didnt have! But others have similar of. Regards Jon |
