I defiantly didn't think it was right I have seen one discussed here on this board in the past that raised a few differing views.

In the lists of No.1 Dress introduced in 1952, the colour of 'Pompadour Blue' is not listed for use on No.1 Dress, for the RAEC it is Minerva Blue. And there is no mention of any Cap, Jacket or Trousers for 21 SAS. Possibly because the list is for the Regular Army.
And the SAS buttons are all silver (metal & aa). Marc Last edited by 54Bty; 17-04-16 at 04:27 PM. |

Pompador is an Essex Regt lilac colour due to their connection with the C18th French Madame of that name and gave them their regtl nickname.

This is an extract from 'Mat Regs' dated April 2004 describing the SAS piping as 'Pompador Blue' which may be in error?
I have seen reference's to the RAEC as 'Cambridge Blue' (which it is not) as well as 'Minerva Blue' and another later reference to the SAS as 'Minerva Blue' as well, and I must admit I am now a little confused... Given 21 SAS's links to the Artists Rifles and references to "Mars & Minerva" this could be a stronger link? Has anyone got a copy of a pre 1992 Dress Regulation for Officers to reference?
