Default 9 SAI

Have this cloth helmet flash, if of interest. I've also seen an officer's embroidered version.

Not my area and also got lost/confused as some sites refer to 9 South African Infantry (‘Sportsmen’s’) Battalion while others have 9 South African Infantry Regiment.

I can find no specific cap badge , it appears that a 'standard' SAI cap badge was worn by the various Infantry Regiments.

The CWGC shows the headstone of a soldier listed as "South African Infantry, 9th Regiment (Sportsmen)" with the 'standard' badge.

While a page about him shows the logo/flash , so could this be a regimental/unit 'patch' rather than a cap badge ?

Default 9th South African

Like the look of that Sportsmen badge, but I think my man will have to settle for the standard springbok badge. The 9SAI brass badge looks more like a title than a cap badge, although they do seem to be lugged
Thanks for your help

Tony

They wore the following:
1. Universal Expeditionary force cap badge (Bokkie in Porthole) as shown by Mike.
2. Shoulder title (9 over SAI)
3. Helmet flash (As shown by IrishHorse)

Cap badge - common, ST - uncommon, helmet flash - rare
