Some evidence suggests the reserve army battalion during the Second World War. Confirmation or alternatives?

Bill, I served with the Royals in the early 1960s to the early 1970s. I have heard of these titles referred to as the '1958 pattern', but I don't know when they actually came into use. I know that we wore them on our battle dress, TW and bush jackets while I was serving. The 2WW scarlet on blue pattern was worn by the cadets.
In my collection, I have a 1945 dated BD identified by s/n to Pte. Ernie Dowson, and I believe he served with the 2nd Battalion (reserve battalion in Canada). It has the scarlet on blue titles on it.
