Default Nova Scotia Highlanders

Gents,

I recently got this badge on ebay, a very nice item.

Can anyone tell me the significance of the enamelling, is it a SNCO badge? Also what would it have been worn on as it has screw posts rather than lugs?

It has a Scully Montreal makers mark.

Look forward to your answers

Bill

It is an officer's cap badge. Screw posts are very common on Scully made officers' cap badges.

This is the badge that was worn on the officers sporran. The officers cap badge has a white enamel annulus as well as the blue enamel on the arms of the cross. My apologies I do not have an OR's badge handy at this time however it is white metal with a brass center .

To add to Phil's id, it looks as if the badge had enamel in the shield that has been removed.
My understanding is that the sporran badge is the cross of St. Andrew, without the annulus.

Hi Bill,

I can't see anywhere that enamel might have been in the shield. I have a couple of sporran badges, one white metal and the other chrome.

They are in my Canadian album.

Thanks for the info,
Regards

Bill

Hi Bill, Interesting. With the armorial crest of Nova Scotia riveted to the badge, and the enamelling in the field of the shield it is definitely a better quality badge. As Phil says, screw posts are typical fasteners for officers' badges.

I have always thought this to be a post war officers badge. Very ornate and beautiful example for sure.

I have an officer's badge in my album too, at least that's what I was told it was.

Default Nova Scotia Highlanders Sporran Badge

The badge you are showing is a sporran badge for the Nova scotia highlanders, It is worn on the OR'S hair sporan and on both the Officers and OR's leather purse.

Great info. I stand corrected on the officers' cap badge and sporran badge.
Thank you.

Thanks for the addition of the image marmido. That clarifies the provenance of the badge. And, screw posts are certainly used as fasteners on some accoutrements.

Hi Marmido,

I seem to have taken a bit of an interest in the NSH and their uniforms and badges.
Anything that shows badges, buttons, uniforms would be helpful. I've tried to look for their dress regulations but with no joy.

Regards
Bill
