Entire letter dated 1st June 1808 from Gibson Thomson Craig Edinburgh to Messers William Wilson & Sons kilt manufactures Bannockburn.
Gibson Thomas Craig is most likely Gibson's, Thomson & Craig's, an Edinburgh merchant. They were obviously a significant supplier to the military if this 1803 Pattern Sword is anything to go by. I also found a reference to them in the Caledonian Mercury for 9 Dec 1805.

Default 1881 pattern officers' collar badge

Hello Ron,

I don't know if you recall, but over a year ago I was searching for a decent image of the 1881 BW officers' pattern collar badge for our series on uniformology.com and at the time you were unable to help. I have at last managed to find one, and so am posting it here as seemingly the best place. I hope that you find it useful and interesting.

Thank you Ron, one aspect that's unclear is which pattern was for officers and which for other ranks. Do you have images of both types for comparison?

Yes, I think you’re right Ron, no doubt German or Sterling silver. I’m just curious as to what the visual difference might have been between the two types.

Toby, I looked at Churchill example at CT auctions that was die cast, the other flat cast example had the exact same front just the rear difference.
Ron.

Thank you Ron. Can you describe the rear differential?

Toby,
Using other badges to illustrate, L to R. Die struck, Die-cast, flat cast or solid there is no male die used.
