RSF silver or plated glengarry badge
Opinions please on this glengarry badge, in its favour, it is a heavy item and the lugs are a sliver colour but these days you never know.
Thanks in advance. P.

Peter.
I don't know a great deal in respect of these items, but with my limited knowledge and in comparison to examples I do have, I will give it a thumbs up. I like the definition, both front and rear and the lugs certainly look "period". However, I'm sure those with more knowledge will be along soon. Regards. Brian |

Think it may be the other ranks version of the VB bearskin badge.

It is in Bloomer ( not at home at present so can’t say which book ) but it’s authenticity is now being called into question ( not here ).

For a couple of reasons I've not liked this since you posted it, I know bugger all about these but there are things I look for and would seem to be in the pictures so not surprised that someone has questioned it.

Magpie,
The reason I posted if here in the first place was that I had some doubts, the main thing that I like is the silver lugs but ……… P.

My personal opinion is it’s been cast from an original badge. You can clearly see the thick uneven edges on the flames and grenade, also where the casting failed on this left flame tip.
Question is, is that how they would have made officers badges 1880s-1901. Somehow I doubt it, but I’m certainly no authority on officers or silver badges. Courtesy of badgeman et al. and more recently int.militaria sadly silver badges with silver loops have been well repro-ed. |

I recently acquired this gilding metal other ranks Royal Scots Fusiliers with QVC.
Looks a good strike but is it original? Tim

In my opinion it is not. I have never seen a RSF glengarry badge Victorian or otherwise with a loop smack bang in the centre of the bomb like that. The only badges like that are Fur Cap grenades and in my opinion the faker has probably banged out a batch of both and fitted the loops in the same position. The top loop also appears to have horrible big feet. Furthermore there is no toning to the badge and in particular to the loops. regards

Not a genuine badge in my belief either Tim.

Simon and Luke,
Thanks, a disappointment but it came in a job lot and cost less than £5 given the residual value of the other bits in the lot. Tim

None of the badges posted here are genuine RSF Glengarry badges in my opinion either, nor is the silver plated one in anyway related to officer badges, which are very a different beast.
I show an early KC officer badge for reference and what a pukka QVC OR Glengarry badge should look like. CB
