7th (Princess Royal's) Dragoon Guards Query
Still (yes Dave, still...) trying to sort out my badges but I have come up with a bit of anomaly that may - which could be my age/brain related...
This is a normal sized cap badge (with an arm badge size of 48mm wide) to the 7DG - however:- a) it has a B&P hallmark (pic included) for 1898/9 an italicised "y". b) the 3 original loops (arm badge style) have been replaced by x2 N/S loops. c) it has a "7th Dragoon Guards" scroll - not the "QUO FATA DOCANT" motto. Q1: were arm badges from this period (1898/9) ever named in this way, as I can't find a reference that mentions this... Q2: was the "title only" used on 7DG cap badges from this period...? Q3: when did the cap badge start using this title (date? ->> 1906)?? This is probably a set of nerdy/moronic questions, but that's what happens when you get to "our" age..... Thanks for any help. Regarding your questions these IMO are the answers: Q1: No. Q2: Yes. Q3: 1899 I think?, sealed pattern 1899 no. 4787 Cap badge Most of the above is made clear in L&D 14. 7DG page 61 Please note the Motto on the arm Badges is 'Quo Fata Vocant' Regards Rob
