Default POW out for a long walk.....

New Zealanders, imprisoned at a concentration camp some 30 miles N.W of Trieste, who walked out of their prison when the news of the Italian capitulation came through. They walked over 100 miles, changed into civilian clothing and came south. En route they saw and had brushes with many German soldiers and at one point they watched the R.A.F bombing. Left to right: Private E. Barnet (20 Bn 2 N.Z.Div.) taken prisoner at Sidi Rezegh. Private O.L Taylor (19 Bn 2 N.Z.Div) taken prisoner at El Alamein. Private R. Kendrick (22 Bn 2 N.Z.Div) taken prisoner at El Alamein. Private D.R. Muir (24 Bn 2 N.Z.Div) taken prisoner at Sidi Rezegh. Private I. Penhall (22 Bn 2 N.Z.Div) taken prisoner at El Alamein.(NA 7564) http://media.iwm.org.uk/iwm/mediaLib...3669/large.jpg

Default Long walk home

Oh to know what became of these men in later life. Did they survive the war and reintegrate back into civilian life, or did they suffer mental trauma, or sickness, in later life as a result of their deprivations.

Stephen.

...as they say "what doesn't kills you makes you stronger"......after going through an ordeal like that one, they probably were not afraid of anything after.....I hope...
