Default King Edward's Horse uniform and badges 1914

Hi all,

A recent addition to my King's Colonials/King Edward's Horse and 2nd King Edward's Horse collection.

A King Edward's Horse (KEH) Officer's tunic, trousers and hat worn in 1914 by Lieutenant William Charles Phillips Harvey. Lieutenant Harvey was an Australian (see my Nominal Roll entry ) who was seconded to the Colonial Office following the outbreak of war.

His tunic and trousers are in excellent condition and both have his name on the Hobson & Sons makers labels. The tunic bears his first pattern 'spikey' crown KEH collar badges (in the pattern of the headdress badge KK 1506) with north-south loops and 20mm tunic breast buttons and 16mm cuff buttons all as KEH pattern marked Hobson & Sons. The tunic is missing the shoulder pips and shoulder titles from the shoulder chains. The uniform came with his lancer-style girdle (actually worn with eyelets to the left) made by Appleton & Sons and marked 1914 and introduced for Officers in 1913. The girdle is named to Sykes (an as yet unidentified KEH Officer).

The hat that came with the uniform bears a black-blue plume and the first pattern 'spikey' crown KEH cap badge (KK 1506) in gilding metal with north-south loops. The cap badge is incorrectly positioned to the side and not the front of the scarlet puggaree (with five folds but described as three folds in yeomanry uniform descriptions for KEH). The hat itself is not original but is a 1944 dated slouch hat which is styled as the KEH Sombrero hat.

A contemporary painting is shown of a KEH Officer in Full Dress uniform for comparison.

Enjoy, cheers Dean
