Default Dragoons ?

Regret no photo but gratefull for advice on the following -

Gilding metal 12 pointed star 13cm tall by 10cm wide, garter with " Honi Soit etc " surrounding figure 5 in white metal.Figure 5 secured by four lugs,2 north and two south,Star has four screw posts.Best I can find in K & K are 711 to 714,but no mention of badge with " 5".
A true badge,or variant,or a mule ? A puzzlement !

Wild shot, there was a Canadian regiment, the 5th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. Again, there is reference to such a badge in Mazeas, but?

Default dragoons

hi 1314, your right in saying its a puzzlement, a gilding metal star should denote a dragoon regiment, as dragoon guards wore a white metal star, however there was no 5th dragoons. the 5th (princess charlotte of wales's)dragoon guards amalgamated with the 6th (inniskilling) dragoons in 1927 to become the 5/6th dragoons but no badges were produced (they still wore the old regiments insignia) so technically no 5th dragoons badge ever existed regards cavalryman

I can't even come up with a Canadian badge with 12 points. There was a 5th Dragoons at Cookshire Que . in 1886, Started as Cavalry in 1877 & amalgamated with the 6th Duke of Connaught's Royal Canadian Hussars in MTL in 1901.

Default 5th dragoons

hi 1314, my reply about there never being a "5th dragoons" was in reference to the british cavalry establishment, i know nothing about canadian/ colonial cavalry regiments so please dont discount boots & saddles revealing a 5th dragoons in the canadian establishment, in a lot of cases the colonial badges follow the british "theme" very closely so i would follow that theory if i was you. regards john

Ignoring the order of GM/WM that are describing - is this the badge 'shape'/type you are trying to get some feedback on? Incidently, this is an O/R's 5th Dragoon Guards helmet plate.
As cardiffbloke has already mentioned you really do need to provide
pictures if you want some sort of measured response.

Default dragoons ?

1314, well it seems that i have some egg on my face over the title 5th dragoons, in 1688-9 in the town of enniskillen 2 x regiments of dragoons were formed the first wynnes inniskilling dragoons, the second conynghams dragoons, wynnes inniskilling dragoons later became the 5th royal irish dragoons also known as the 5th royal dragoons of ireland and also known as the 5th royal irish regiment of dragoons they were disbanded in 1799, they reformed as 5th light dragoons in 1858, changed name to 5th royal irish lancers in 1861, disbanded again in 1921, reformed as a squadron and joined as junior partner with the 16th lancers ( due to 58 year break in service) to become the 16th/5th lancers. the second regiment conynghams dragoons later became the 6th inniskilling dragoons. i hope this clears up the mistake on my behalf. regards john
